DIY Friday: The Purrfect Cat-Eye

July 27, 2012 | 9:25 AM | Her | By Alanna Watson

Finally! A beauty tutorial that you can actually do by yourself. Those crazy step-by-step guides on how to achieve the “perfect whatever” usually have us walking away from the mirror looking like Toddlers in Tiaras gone wrong, but that’s because they expect so much from us make-up challenged females. Thanks to Refinery 29 and this awesome video from a pretty cool chic who looks like a cross between Lana Del Rey and Kat Von D, the cat-eye you’ve been dreaming of  is not only doable, but easier than ever before. Why? Because Kat Del Rey doesn’t expect a flawless line to just flow from our fingers, she knows better and even says, point-blank, “you probably won’t be able to do it anyway.” With those low, low expectations, we are free from impossible standards and finally given the tutorial we deserve. Call it “make-up for dummies,”  but Lana Von D and Refinery 29 have saved us with this video. Watch for yourself and see your life change before your soon-to-be flawlessly lined eyes.

Fest Dressed: Coachella’s Hottest Looks

April 19, 2012 | 3:00 PM | Her | By Alanna Watson

With week one down and another fashion-packed three day extravaganza ahead, it’s only right that we highlight our favorite looks from the first round of desert’s most famous music festival. Lots of trends could be seen on the style-conscious crowd and the somewhat unpredictable weather made for a much more interesting mix. While we know Tupac’s hologram was obviously the hottest thing going, you can check out who we declared “fest dressed” in our gallery after the jump after scouring the blogs and fashion sites like Refinery 29, Fashion Toast, Song of Style, Pinterest and BLDG 25»READ MORE

Three Pinteresting Spring Cocktails

March 28, 2012 | 4:30 PM | Cocktail Recipes | By Alanna Watson

With Pinterest feeling the legal heat these days, we choose to ignore the copyright infringement and use the site like it was meant to be used, a way for people to share things (like drink recipes) on a public forum where it is far more likely to be seen than their personal blog. The truth stings. Better drink to make it better. Good thing Spring fever as set it and the best way to cool off is with a nice cold cocktail right around now. Here are three cocktails that caught our fancy.

1. “Skinny” Caipirinha from Refinery 29 (above) - All the way from Brazil, this delightful cocktail is better for you…really! With Leblon Cachaca, lime juice and agave nectar, you can feel good about feeling good.

2. Limoncello Collins from Food and Wine -Light and refreshing, this classic cocktail has a little Italian twist with Limoncello and then the classic gin, club soda and mint sprigs we know and love. Delizioso.

3. Pink Grapefruit Margaritas from There Goes the Cupcake – Um, yum? What is more Spring-like in taste than a grapefruit? You just feel better about life thinking about eating a grapefruit….it’s not an exact science, but it is true. Grapefruit juice (fresh squeezed or bottled, we don’t judge), lime juice, triple sec orange liqueur, silver tequila and some salt?

The list could go on and on and on, but we know you have better things to do with your time. Happy hour awaits you.

DIY Tuesday: Mad Men Make-Up

March 27, 2012 | 11:00 AM | Her | By Alanna Watson

Obsession Confession: His name is Jon Hamm and he has captured our…. attention? for years as the adulterous, slightly sociopathic and entirely gorgeous Don Draper on Mad Men. Aside from the fact that it is a really great show, the wardrobe alone can be held responsible for the surge of 1960s fashion that has made its way back into our wardrobes over the past five years and now you can further your swinging style by following this Mad Men make-up tutorial from Refinery 29. Winged eyeliner and matte lipstick may seem like an easy enough thing to pull off, being a “Joan” requires a little more patience and a make-up kit from Reserve that has all the tools you need. Visit here to check out the video and here to pick up a kit for yourself which includes a lipstick that is ”the perfect shade of red” according to R29, a cheek stain and brush, an eyeshadow quad and liner brush for the perfect sultry eye. Joan swagger not included.

Bacon Between Your Teeth

September 22, 2011 | 12:30 PM | Him | By Staff

Yesterday we brought you where to bring home the Bacon Balm to pork up your pucker. Today, we found the Bacon Dental Floss, as part of the his and hers floss pack. Though we love our bacon and kinda wonder what this tastes like, we agree with Refinery 29′s assessment of the for him floss as both “offensive” and “hilarious.”

Chow Down: This Week in Food Blogs

September 14, 2011 | 1:00 PM | Eat & Drink | By Alanna Watson

If your stomach is growling and your blood sugar is so low you’re considering a trip to the vending machine as an alternative to eating your arm, you know it’s Wednesday afternoon. Here’s a redux of this week’s happenings in our favorite food blogs:

In honor of  New York Fashion Week, we thought it necessary to share this “Don’t Feed the Models” Cocktail recipe from Refinery 29. It’s funny and only an astonishing 178 calories. Suck one back to rock it like Miranda, Gisele or Heidi (even if you still look like a normal human being).  Recipe after the jump.  »READ MORE
