The overall consensus is a resounding NO. In today’s digital age, text messaging has become a staple in courting that special someone. Texts, at least in my case, are meticulously thought out. Why? It’s because it is almost impossible to convey an emotion through it. A well placed ‘haha’ can be key when wooing someone. So, when is it okay for someone to break it off via text messaging? In most instances, it is not okay. But Sam Biddle at Gizmodo has thought up 4 occasions where it is acceptable.
One Night Stands – How many times do you see someone again after the elusive one night stand? Probably not many. That’s why it’s okay to say, hey you had a good time but let’s leave it at what it is.
Booty Call - Almost equivalent to the one night stand, the booty call is a casual relationship where consenting parties… well you know. These relationships tend to teeter off after a while anyway.
Casual Dating - Sure, you’ve gone out a couple times. Maybe dinner or drinks, but you’re just not feeling it. A text would totally be appropriate here.
Long Distance – If you’ve ever tried a long distance relationship, chances are it didn’t work out. Different parts of the country or world make it hard to keep in constant communication. Sadly, you tend drift apart. Again, a text would be appropriate here.
If you’ve been dating someone for an extended period of time and call them your significant other, we advise you don’t break up over text. That’s just mean. To read more about this, check out the whole Gizmodo article here.
