The West Ain’t Dead Yet

November 8, 2012 | 12:00 PM | Him | By Maxfield Barker

That’s a statement of fact. Hub Clothing’s new lines by The West is Dead, Nudie Jeans, and Pendleton this season prove that fact. If you folks are looking to update your or your hubby’s wardrobe, look no further than Hub.

Chambray shirts, colored canvas chinos, twill plaid, and Henley shirts are all in, giving you contemporary meets retro fashion sense. This trend is a chance for guys to have fun with layers this season, but not too many. The AZ winter isn’t exactly frigid. You can throw a pair of suspenders over an oatmeal Henley shirt, tucked into to a pair of rusted copper chinos.

Head over to Hub at Fashion Square Mall.

Today’s Object of Desire: Gotham Rogues Gear

July 24, 2012 | 10:00 AM | Him | By Alanna Watson

It’s okay to admit it. We, too, are majorly bummed that wearing your Batman gear in public passed the age of seven isn’t as widely accepted as we’d like, but we have a sneaky way around the silly social rule that reduces you to wear grown up clothing on days that don’t end in -”alloween” and it’s all thanks to Under Armour. The athletic clothing company has created an entire line dedicated to the fictional (yet awesome) Gotham City Rogues featured in The Dark Knight Rises. It’s subtle, but this will allow you to rep your favorite superhero any day of the week. The swag will run you $30-$300 and might just make “black and yellow” your new theme song. Check it out on Uncrate here.

Today’s Object of Desire: Euphori-Lock

July 10, 2012 | 12:00 PM | Her | By Alanna Watson

Leave it to Ben and Jerry (our two best friends for life and creators of some of the most original and delicious ice cream flavors to ever clog our colons) to come up with a way to keep your ice cream safe in your freezer. Whether it be friends, roommates or sneaky family members, it seems that you can never really trust anyone with a half-pint you purchased…until now. Ben and Jerry’s Euphori-Lock is a totally genius and entirely serious way to protect your beloved dessert from the hands of the hungry. For only $6.64, you can purchase a Euphori-Lock and leave your Chunky Monkey in the freezer with peace of mind. The locks are backordered currently (um, obviously?), but check back here around August 15 to score the sweetest way to secure your sweets.

4th of July Essentials Part 3: The Shopping List

July 3, 2012 | 10:00 AM | Cocktail Recipes | By Kara Philp

Red, white and blue dipped strawberries are the perfect Summer treat for any 4th of July gathering. Photo courtesy of halfhourmeals.com.

It’s time to stop procrastinating and get busy prepping for that 4th of July gathering you’re hosting or attending. Since patriotic appetizers, drinks and party favors are so, well, patriotic and because it’s rude to show up empty-handed, we’ve taken the liberty (pun intended) of creating this holiday shopping list for you.

What to serve:

Half Hour Meals has compiled an exceptional list of recipes that pay tribute to the Red, White and Blue. Between the dessert ideas, the cocktail recipes, and the kid-friendly sweet treats you’re sure to find a uniquely edible way to salute to the USA this holiday. Don’t forget to keep these ideas tucked away for the Olympics later this Summer too.

What to buy:

It’s just not Independence Day without fireworks. Buying fireworks at tent stands and grocery stores is legal in Arizona; however, lighting them can be illegal depending on your city (as well as the date). Click here for more details.

The Grill Comb is not a grooming gadget, it’s a conversation piece. Save yourself the hassle of skewers this grilling season and get this multi-pronged grilling tool. Made from food-grade stainless steel, it’s reusable, dishwasher safe, and at a foot long, can handle plenty of food. Available at Uncrate.com for $11/2-pack.

What to wear:

No, not another commemorative Old Navy tee. We’re talking practical fashion for the triple digits. Here are some timelessly patriotic ideas, because, let’s face it, people love to rock the stars and stripes. For her and for him. Whatever your plans entail, don’t forget the lawn chairs, blankets, cooler and sun screen. Happy Independence Day.

The Valley’s First Men’s Night

June 19, 2012 | 2:00 PM | Bars | By Maxfield Barker

Wait, what? Yes, you read correctly. We all know that countless bars, clubs, and restaurants have exclusive Ladies’ Nights where fine females don’t have to pay a cover and get free booze. That’s cool, but where’s the motivation for opposite sex? In a society where gender roles are slowly going the way of the Dodo, Blue Wasabi Sushi and Martini Bar in Scottsdale and Gilbert is starting a revolution.

Starting tonight, Blue Wasabi is introducing the Valley’s first men’s night with ‘Rocks and Rolls,” which features smoking deals on drinks on the rocks and awesome sushi rolls. Clever, no? Sorry ladies, this deal is for the guys only. With names like the ‘Chuck Norris Roll’ and the ‘Fightin’ Irish’ cocktail, these guy-specific items are definitely playing to a certain crowd.

“There’s no shortage of Ladies’ Nights around town, so we thought it was about time the guys had a night of their own — Rocks and Rolls at Blue Wasabi is exactly that,” Jim Moran, owner of Blue Wasabi said.

The deal gets even better. Every Wednesday the guys will get the chance to win a pair of Arizona Diamondback tickets in a raffle and all you have to do is show up and enter.

“New drinks, the same great Blue Wasabi food on special and for a limited time, the chance to win Diamondbacks tickets,” Moran said. “Wednesdays officially belong to the guys now.”

A Swinging Gift For Father’s Day

June 14, 2012 | 3:00 PM | Him | By Maxfield Barker

As you may or may not know (hopefully you do), this Sunday is Father’s Day. Not sure what to get Pops this year? Well, if he’s an avid golfer of professional or amateur quality, why not consider the Swedge Golf Training Aid?

For those of you familiar with golf, we know it can be a difficult sport to get good at. Many golfers suffer from the dreaded “chicken wing” or “flying elbow.” These are the swings that tend to make you hook or slice the ball. Up until recently, the only solution to the problem was sticking a towel or club headcover under your arm, not exactly the most elegant looking thing in this prestigious sport.

After two years of research and development, the Swedge training aid came alive. The Swedge is a small, washable half-moon pillow covered with a durable nylon casing. It fixes your hook or slice, increases distance, improves accuracy, and keeps you connected throughout your swing.

With your choice of three colors; black, red and blue and has a convenient clip that attaches right to your golf bag, this is the perfect gift for that golfing father in your life.

For $29.99, head over to your nearest Golfsmith store to pick one up.

Today’s Object of Desire: Darth Vader Father’s Day Card

June 12, 2012 | 12:00 PM | Him | By Alanna Watson

We think this card pretty much speaks for itself, but you can buy this amazing little gem on Etsy for only $2.99  just in time to give to your pops this Sunday. Sure, Luke may not have deemed ol’ D.V.  ”father of the year”, but giving the gift of a laugh to your old man just may put you in the running for the best kid ever.

P.S. We found this card on the website Cool Sh*t You Can Buy and you should check it out. It’s almost as much fun as the #whatshouldwecallme tumblr (just in case you’re looking to waste a little more of your Tuesday). No need to thank us.

Scratch and Sniff Jeans at HUB Clothing

April 5, 2012 | 1:30 PM | Her | By Hannah Hayes

Most of us just want our jeans to be comfortable and make our butts look good (admit it), but after two weeks of wearing the same pair (again, just admit it), the scent of our favorite denim can be a little off-putting. We’ll wash them, we promise, but before that happens we could use a little air-freshening. Thankfully, Naked and Famous has just released scented jeans, which is not anywhere close to the way they smell after pulling them out of the bottom of the hamper. Available at HUB Clothing in Scottsdale, these Scratch and Sniff jeans actually aren’t as crazy as they sound, having simply been coated with raspberry-scented micro capsules that Naked and Famous swears lasts even after five washes (so…like a year…ok, kidding about that one). Scented jeans that smell like raspberry candy without the calories? We’ll take two.

Liposonix Readies You For Summer

April 2, 2012 | 7:55 AM | Her | By Hannah Hayes

The weather is warming up, but are you ready to show some skin? If you’re like us, you may need a little help. Liposonix, a revolutionary procedure from Susan Van Dyke, M.D. of Van Dyke Laser & Skin in Scottsdale. With ten years of developmental research, the FDA-approved, non-surgical, non-invasive procedure uses high-intensity focused ultrasound energy (HIFU) to permanently destroy fat cells, giving patients the ultimate convenience of one treatment, in one hour, becoming one size smaller. When the ultrasound is targeted on problem areas, it will permanently eradicate fat around the waistline without surgery or harm to the outer skin layer. The fat is removed through the body’s natural healing process. In approximately 8 to 12 weeks, the fat becomes completely metabolized, leaving you with a thinner, more contoured waistline without having to go under the knife.

teres Puts the Man in MANicure

March 30, 2012 | 9:30 AM | Her | By Staff

It’s time to regularly buff and shine, gentlemen. And no, we’re not talking about your four-wheeled friend in the garage. We’re talking about your fingernails. Time to step it up for regular MANicures and we’ve got just the salon for you.

teres, a new nail bar concept in Scottsdale, is a relaxing manicure and pedicure oasis, suitable for those in suits and of course, ladies alike. The interiors of the salon are soothing, the essential oil add-ons for pedicure soaks are divine, and the private room for gentlemen (ladies too!) with a flat-screen TV to enjoy the game or the fight (or the latest chick-flick) during a proper buff and shine leaves little reason for men to opt out of a regular MANicure.

teres offers a pre-payment loyalty program for just $25 a month, which goes toward your monthly service, and promises to call and remind you if you haven’t used it. You can gift a service or roll your membership if you miss an appointment or for the commitment-phobes, you can forego the pre-payment plan all together and book services as usual. For the ladies, same great services and specials apply, including the latest baseball decals for your party nail to impress your man during spring and summer baseball season.

Coach Ditches Logos, Becomes Classic (Again)

March 22, 2012 | 3:30 PM | Her | By Hannah Hayes

Via Refinery29

It’s about time the world caught on to the fact that logo-emblazoned bags are soooo twelve years ago. Granted, we’ll never relinquish the Louis Vuittons our moms gave us or the famous Fendi baguette, but for everyday toting, over-the-top-branded bags are just too flashy. This reasoning is exactly why we’re so excited that classic favorite Coach has gotten back to its roots. Adopting a (not-so) shiny new, traditional aesthetic, Coach is finally ditching those massive C’s and sending out a line of brightly-colored (oranges, purples, blues, and yellows) leather shoes and handbags in restrained but modern shapes. Focusing on a more fashion-forward clientele, these new handbags and footwear are flashy only in the “where’d you get that bag?!” kind of sense, and unlike the canvas fad that’s been happening the past few years, are constructed to last and for the price ($180 -$1000) we would hope so. There’s nothing better than an It-bag that endures.

Object of Desire: Formula One King Power Ceramic Chronograph

March 22, 2012 | 1:30 PM | Her | By Hannah Hayes

Forget that old Timex you have on your wrist: Oliver Smith Jeweler at The Shops at Gainey Village in Scottsdale will soon be sharing with the world an extremely stylish way to tell time. Near the end of the month, the high-end jeweler will be carrying Adrian Wilson’s favorite watch line, Hublot, for which Wilson will host a private launch party next week at The Mint. Currently, for ourselves and all the dashing gents in our lives, we’ve got our eyes set on this beautiful Formula One King Power Ceramic Chronograph timepiece. However, at a price point that requires a little patience, this will have to remain (for now) DLT’s Number One Object of Desire.

Biltmore Fashion Park Gets UNION-ized

March 22, 2012 | 9:30 AM | Her | By Hannah Hayes

Biltmore Fashion Park is getting UNION-ized: beginning in November 2012, Phoenix’s retail “crown- jewel” will add a diverse mix of local and independent retail in a new shopping experience called UNION. Planned for the east end of the shopping center between Stingray Sushi and Seasons 52, the 7200-square-foot platform for independent businesses will be a modern yet traditional shopping experience; the center will be in a contemporary, industrial atmosphere mixed with the warmth of various woods and romantic chandeliers. The space will be designed by architectural firm Plus/Minus Studio and will provide each retailer with two-to-five-hundred square feet of space with sliding doors and glass panels that allow for growth and change with the retailer’s needs. UNION is an opportunity to bring small, independent entrepreneurs and artists to Biltmore, replicating the unique retail mix historically found at Biltmore Fashion Park.

“This exciting new concept will give 11-13 shops and eateries an easy entry into an established marketplace while embracing the community and enhancing the retail mix of Biltmore Fashion Park,” said Mary Boyd-Williams, Senior Manager of Leasing for Macerich.

Biltmore Fashion Park has also partnered with a well-established local business owner and talented artistic designer, Lew Gallo, to help define the space and cultivate the essence of UNION.

“When I was an independent retailer, I always wanted to have my shop nestled among other like-minded merchants and still be able to benefit from a high-profile shopping center like Biltmore Fashion Park and that’s what UNION is,” said Gallo.
