A Pocket Full of Posies

A eco-friendly and super easy way to add a little life to your home is the Woolly Pocket Living Wall Planter. Made from 100% recycled plastic water bottles here in the United States, the soft-sided pockets are breathable, brightly colored, modular and a fun way to grow indoors. Used for a single garden or hanging out with a crowd, the Woolly Pocket makes a great gift for all, even the garden-impaired.

The original Woolly is available online for $40, but we just picked one up local at the new Bodega grocer and market in Scottsdale.

The Funk Lab Funks You Up

October 11, 2011 | 9:30 AM | Home & Design | By Staff

Have you ever walked into a place and said, “This place is cool.” There’s that vibe of cool, calm, sophistication and intelligence that makes you want to stay awhile. That’s just the feeling we got when entering The Funk Lab, the home of Edge Industries in Downtown Phoenix. So we stayed, had an espresso at their back office bar and chatted art and design for an afternoon with Edge Industries.

The Funk Lab, owned by Edge Industries Cruise Director Kirby Hoyt, is an unassuming 1920′s built former grocery store on Grand Avenue, bought by Hoyt as the mother ship for EI, and as a collaborative idea-space for art, ideas, events and design. The lab regularly opens its doors to local artists and designers as a place for inspiration, creation and demonstration of their works.

Paint the Town Green

April 14, 2011 | 2:40 PM | Home & Design | By Frank Johnson

As Valley homeowners continue to struggle with a historically bad real estate market, one local industry is rolling in the green. Green paint, that is. Yes, companies such as Turf Painter are busier than ever as more and more Valley residents save money by letting their water-gulping grass lawns go brown. However, as anyone who’s ever lived in an HOA- monitored neighborhood can tell, the fines for not maintaining a green yard can dwarf any savings from turning off the sprinklers. Which is where these grass painting services come in. For about $200, they can paint your yard with a vegetable-based dye, which lasts for three months or so.

No word on whether they will also paint your green pool a nice shade of blue.
