A Chain Reaction

August 2, 2011 | 4:55 PM | Her | By Rebecca Bogdansky

This season bold chains are the go-to jewelry trend. It’s easy to create an edgy look with a multi-chain bracelet  or stay clean-cut and classic with a single chain statement necklace. But, jewelry isn’t the only place we’re seeing them. Shoes and handbags are seeing a chain reaction to the trend. We’re in love with the Rachel Zoe ‘Audrey’ shoulder bag because it combines a chic neutral snakeskin pattern and simple gold chain link accents to create the perfect fall accessory. We’re also obsessed with the Marc Jacobs ‘Chain Ankle Boot’ available in navy, black and rust. Check out the gallery below to see our favorite chain accessories.

Sun Devil Nominated For Do Something Award

August 2, 2011 | 7:45 AM | Art & Entertainment | By Rebecca Bogdansky

Arizona State Alum, Adam Lowy must have gotten some studying in when he attended one of the top party schools in the nation because he is one of five finalists eligible for a VH1 Do Something Award. Unlike most award shows, the Do Something Awards not only recognizes celebrities for their charitable work, but young people for giving back to the community.

After working for his 90 year-old family moving business, Lowy saw firsthand the amount of food that gets wasted when people move and started Move For Hunger.  The non-profit organization works with moving companies to pick up unwanted non-perishable food items from those who are moving and take it to local food banks. After just two years, the 25-year-old’s organization has 150 movers in 35 states involved and 325,000 pounds of food has been delivered to food banks. Make sure to cast your vote for the former Sun Devil and tune into the Do Something Awards on August 18th at 9/8c on VH1.

Trend Alert: Magnetic Nails

July 28, 2011 | 11:43 AM | Her | By Rebecca Bogdansky

Even though we just released our favorite fall nail polish trends last week, the nail polish world is ever-changing and we had to share this cool new gimmick with you. Crackle, tie-die…what’s next you ask? Magnetic. Yep, you heard right, a magnetic nail lacquer. A UK nail brand, Nails Inc. is releasing a polish called Magnetic Attraction which contains iron powder and comes with a magnet embedded in the cap. After applying a coat of the polish, all you have to do is hold the magnet over your nails to get the rippled effect. It’s available in October and hopefully by then Nails Inc. will have expanded into the US.  If you can’t wait until then, LCN has a professional line selling for $10 a pop not including the magnets which sell for about $20…which high-end Scottsdale salon will pick it up first?

July 26, 2011 | 11:55 AM | Eat & Drink | By Rebecca Bogdansky

The end is in sight for the popular culinary venue, Cycle, but not before some of the Valley’s top chefs roll on through. The pop-up restaurant opened it’s doors at the Lexington Hotel April 1 with a set expiration date for Fall 2011. Since its opening back in March, Cycle has since been occupied by 22 chefs and has served just about everything from mac & cheese to fried catfish. The final menus will be whipped up by Payton Curry, Josh Hebert, Joel LaTondress and Cullen Campbell.

Payton Curry is no amateur when it comes to pop-up restaurants. His pop-up restaurant at the Welcome Diner was a huge success and he is bringing his delicious creations to Cycle for two nights only on July 29th and 30th. Named “Payton’s Place,” local vegetable and fresh seafood can be expected in the prix-fixe 5-course meal. The cost is $45 and cocktails concocted by master mixologist Travis Nass of Rancho Pinot can be purchased separately.

On August 5th and 6th, POSH chef Josh Hebert will bring his Japanese food favorites to Cycle. On the menu– okonomiyaki, tako yaki, three types of ramen and green tea pot de creme! Appetizers start at $7 and main dishes are $12. This pop-up restaurant will have guests believing they’re on the streets of Tokyo.

Joel LaTondress, food blogger, citizen dining critic and web developer (love that) is offering a prix-fixe “Summer Cookout” at Cycle on August 8th and 9th. The $45 6-7 course meal will include sweet corn ravioli and homemade potato chips.

Finally, Cullen Campbell is bringing a little big of everything to Cycle. Belgian waffles with peaches, foie butter and maple syrup… proscuitto, grits, eggs and truffles. Must we say more? “Pazzo” which means “crazy” in Italian is the perfect name for Campbell’s inventive pop-up which will be open August 19th and 20th.

Seats are limited and expected to sell out. For more informations and reservations visit www.CyclePhoenix.com
