Quick, what is this odd-shaped structure at left? A condo complex? No. Vertical arboretum? Wrong. Airport control tower? Good guess, but still, no. This mind boggling structure has been erected in India of all places and is 27 stories tall. Keep the guesses coming, you’ll never get it (unless you cheated). Find out more after the jump.
Incredibly intricate yet still whimsical, we’re big fans of Mystic Pieces, the new jewelry line created local artist, Shelly Brooks. Plus, they make the perfect gift for that steampunk aficionado in your life. (What’s a steampunk? Read on)
LADIES: Tired of unfashionably lugging around that Glock 45 on your hip? Or worse, not having it by your side while strolling through dangerous neighborhoods like Scottsdale Fashion Square? (Dangerous to your credit cards, that is. Hey-o!)
Well, have we got a solution for you. Don’t be fooled, this stylish tote pictured at left is no ordinary handbag. No, it’s a gotta-have-it, super-secret gun holster! And better yet, it’s designed right here in the Valley and comes in a variety of coordinating colors, shapes and styles, too! Only in Arizona, right? Check out more gun slingin’ fashions and where to snag one of these gems after the jump.
Men and women of Arizona (OK, mostly women), Red Door Spa has opened a new (and improved) location inside the Biltmore Fashion Park. Well, actually it just moved across the courtyard from its previous location, which was somewhat hidden and tucked away from the street.
Featuring six treatment rooms, three manicure stations, three pedicure thrones, a make-up station, and a full-service hair salon, this striking space has opened just in time to celebrate Red Door Spa’s 100th anniversary. Before and after their treatments, guests can also enjoy a spacious locker room, tranquil relaxation lounge and a spa café, while the spa’s retail boutique will carry premium Elizabeth Arden skincare products and cosmetics, as well as hair care and body care products.

As we finally warm up from the Valley’s deep freeze, it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy the bumper crop of farmer’s markets that have sprung up all over town in the past few years. (That said, don’t under estimate the longtime classic that is the Vincent’s Camelback Market, pictured at left)

As Mill Ave continues to struggle with empty storefronts and unfinished condo apartment towers, we just heard about a bit of good news for East Valley food hounds. Mellow Mushroom has finally sprouted up inside the former Z Gallerie space at Centerpoint on Mill (and no, it’s not what you think).
Started by a trio of Georgia Tech college students, the original Mellow Mushroom has been satisfying college students’ pizza and beer requirements for the past 26 years. Now featuring 100 restaurants across 15 states, Mellow Mushroom is actually already here in AZ. (Road trip to far NW Phoenix, anyone?) So what’s on the menu?
Normally, we’re not huge fans of gimmicky iPhone apps. But now that V-Day is finally in the rearview mirror, isn’t it time to buy something for that very special someone: you?
This new Neiman Marcus Gifts app allows shoppers even more freedom to shop wherever, whenever and as far away from the mall madness as they want. The app’s homepage displays the day’s featured gift idea complete with a picture and the price. Shake the phone and a new gift comes up. Customers can also narrow gift search results by price range or age/gender of the recipient.
Meet Robert Black, the most fashionable man you’ve (probably) never heard of. Currently the owner of the vintage fashion trove, Fashion by Robert Black, Black is better known as the founder of one of the Valley’s premier modeling firms. Named the Ford Robert Black Agency, it was formed 15 years ago after Black partnered with the iconic NY-based talent agency, Ford Models. Recently, we spoke with this couture clothier about life in the fab lane, including his involvement with the last Fall’s Valley Vintage Fashion Show. Check out the full Q&A and savor more photos of Black’s fav fashions after the jump.
If you’ve never been to the Central Phoenix boutique, Frances, and the neighboring candy store, Smeeks, you’re missing out on two of the Valley’s most charming, stylish spaces. Recently, we sat down with owner, Georganne Bryant, to chat about about her side-by-side shops, starting with big sister, Frances. Overflowing with new and vintage women’s clothing, a men’s section, jewelry, baby/children’s items, kitschy-cute gifts, home products, novelty and art, it’s easy to see why Bryant needed a whole new space to house her growing selection of sugary sweets. Catch our interview with Georganne and a photo montage after the jump.
As chosen by you, here are the most popular stories OF ALL TIME (or at least since we launched way back in April). Introducing the 6th most intriguing story of 2010:

As the Valley revels in the near perfect Fall weather (cool nights and balmy, sun-drenched days), our thoughts turn to a crisp glass of chilled vino. Hey, it’s 5 pm somewhere, right? That said, why settle for a luke-warm glass of Chardonnay that’s probably been open for a week, when you can have a perfectly-preserved tipple poured out of a wine tap? Yes, believe it or not, the wine tap is suddenly très chic.
As a top graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, previous apprentice of an Alain Ducasse protégé and a baker for the Queen Mum, Julia Baker has built up quite the reputation. Her recent transition from a solely online enterprise to her first flagship store, Julia Baker Confections, will provide Valley chocoholics with a taste of some European flair.
Think if anyone could transform 15 minutes of fame into a few years of fame by being bad at something, we’d all be wealthy William Hungs! If only.
The man who made Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” even less listenable will be performing at the Coach House tonight at 5 pm, followed by an encore performance tomorrow night at Geisha A Go Go.

Scottsdale’s (embarrassingly) own narcissist, Hooman Karamian (aka Nik Richie, aka Dirty.com founder) sat down with Dr. Phil recently to defend his “service to society” as well as send out another desperate cry for attention (wait, isn’t that what his whole site is doing?). Wife, Shayne Lamas, was also in attendance discussing the couple’s relationship and Hooman’s “business.” Get all the Dirty deets (if you can stand it) after the jump.
While exiting the soaring tents of this year’s Scottsdale Fashion Week, it was difficult not to notice the mesmerizing glow emanating from a certain tow trailer. Yes, trailer. Manned by local artisan, Heidi Martincic, this campy camper housed the most impressive setup of jewelry and eye-catching trinkets we’d ever seen. Think: chic gypsy flea market and you’ve summed up Paris Montana, Martinicic’s way-cool line of jewelry and accessories. Recently, DLT sat down with Martincic to talk about her often bumpy journey from a Mercedes-driving corporate type to a Jeep and Airstream-traveling fashionista. Check out more of Heidi’s story and some pieces from her collection (as well as the trailer) after the jump!
