DIY Fridays: Oil Lantern

October 12, 2012 | 10:00 AM | Shop & Style | By Maxfield Barker

We’re going to get a bit old fashioned with this week’s DIY. To set the ambiance in any room or in your backyard, we’re showing you how to make your own oil lantern. First, pick your favorite glass bottle. You can go to an antique store and find some pretty cool shaped ones, or you can use a liquor bottle that’s in your recycle bin from last night’s Thirsty Thursday party. Find a wick and drop it in the bottle until it touches the bottom. Thread a metal washer on the wick so it sits flush with the opening and cut it, leaving about 1/2 an inch exposed. Remove the wick, add lantern oil and there you have it.
