Chow Down: This Week In Food Blogs

July 18, 2012 | 3:00 PM | Eat & Drink | By Kara Philp

In a week where instant mashed potato dispensers in Singapore 7-11s dominated food headlines (watch the now viral video here), let’s just say we sifted through the odd, marinated on the gross and poured over the monotonous to bring you the most worthy consumable news (not a zombie joke). Here’s a redux of this week’s happenings in our favorite food blogs:

Let’s start with an appetizer aka an unusual headline or two:

Man vs. Food’s Adam Richman may have lost the Chompie’s Ultimate Slider Challenge, but Valley residents continue to make him look bad. Mouth By Southwest spotlights the latest victorious diner here. In case you were curious, Chow Bella polled 15 Valley chefs to get their thoughts on the “most overrated food of 2012 so far,” curious about the results? Find out here.

For the main course, a serving of more traditional foodie news local deals:

BLT Steak at JW Marriott Camelback Inn is hosting a five-course dinner and drinks with Oscar Renteria Thursday beginning with a wine reception at 6 p.m. Cost is $95 per person and reservations are required. Find out more via EaterAZ. Donovan’s Steakhouse is offering a special summer dine-out event that includes dinner for two and a bottle of wine for $99 through July 31. EaterAZ has menu and reservation details here. Now through September 2, The Capital Grille is hosting their Generous Pour Wine Event which offers unlimited pour of 9 world-class wines for $25 with dinner. Phoenix Bites dishes the details here.

Save room for dessert:

The Pink Spot is bringing back lobster flavored ice cream only this time with a local twist, Chow Bella has the details. If traditional ice cream flavors are more your style, Don & Charlie’s is offering their Gold Brick Sundae for only 99 cents through August 8, according to Phoenix Bites. Last, but not least, Phoenix Bites reminds us that cookie parties aren’t just for Girl Scouts. Cookies from Home is hosting a cookie decorating party  that includes tips on decorating techniques and a dozen cookies to decorate and take home and enjoy.

Always leave a tip:

Jake’s Grill & Bar in Gilbert and Urban Tea Loft are both closing their doors, while My Fit Foods in Ahwatukee and eight to 10 Valley locations of Mr. Scrib’s pizza chain are set to open.
