Chow Down: This Week In Food Blogs

We know summer means warmer blazing temperatures, but in the desert it’s easy to forget that with summer comes exciting seasonal offerings, lighter fare and brighter colors. So besides all the tropical drinks and excuses to grill (which we are huge fans of, by the way) here’s a redux of this week’s happenings in our favorite food blogs:

Here in the Valley of the Sun, we can take year-round farmer’s markets for granted, so take some time this summer to support local farmers and enjoy their goods. Our friends at Chow Bella profile a summer staple, the Farmer’s Market Salad at St. Francis. While you’re at it, take a peek at their piece on Binkley’s Heirloom Tomato Dinner, also courtesy of a local farmer. Just in case you’re now feeling inspired, here’s a list of local farmer’s markets, courtesy of Haute Living.

Next up: The luau, an almost exclusively summer event with unmistakable cuisine. Mouth by Southwest reminded us that it’s time for the 4th Annual Hawaiian Luau at SanTan Brewing. Perhaps you want to take the kids to enjoy the same festivities a summer luau has to offer, check out the family-friendly Anniversary Hawaiian Luau at Wet ‘n’ Wild waterpark this weekend instead.

Lastly, seafood. This summer favorite is fresh, light and delicious when served hot or cold. Keep up with local blogger, Susie Timms of Girl Meets Fork, as she documents her adventures and recipes as part of Copper River Salmon’s “Fresh Catch Crew” summer promotion. Not to mention a recent nod EaterAZ gave Tanzy (next to iPic at Scottsdale Quarter) for their … you guessed it, seafood.

So, whether you throw another shrimp on the barbie, grab your grass skirt and hula the night away or hit a local farmer’s market, enjoy because it’s going to be a hot one.
