Chow Down: This Week in Food Blogs

November 30, 2011 | 11:30 AM | Eat & Drink | By Alanna Watson

Get stuffed last week? We feel your pain. To top it all off, those darned Victoria’s Secret Angels Freaks of Nature strutting their 90 lb frames down the runway last night were enough to make anyone want to head straight to the gym and eat nothing but celery until bathing suit season, but for whatever reason, we just had an overwhelming craving for cheese fries. This is a column for food lovers so here’s a redux of this week’s happenings in our favorite food blogs:

With the holiday season in full swing, making the perfect roast would be a great thing to have in your arsenal when entertaining. For this, we turn to Pen & Fork and the review of the cookbook, All About Roasting. This book contains everything you didn’t think you needed to know about roasting everything from lamb to vegetables and has 4.1 lbs worth of recipes and tips to making the perfect holiday dish. Check out the site to get the step-by-step guide to making Roasted Rack of Lamb with Spiced Honey Glaze or pick up the book by Molly Stevens asap to make the most of it.

And if you’ve had enough (just enough!) of holiday food already, here’s a great little restaurant that has been serving up Turkish cuisine for five years on Mill Avenue. Thanks to its convenient location off the lightrail, PHX Rail Food gave it a shout out this week. Fast food by day and full fledged restaurant by night, MedFresh Grill has survived the three year restaurant test by giving customers good food for a great price. Kabobs, hummus, yellow rice and a classic salad are all jazzed up with a “secret red sauce” and the menu could be comparable to that of a Greek restaurant, but with slightly different flavors of marinades and variations of traditional sides on what would typically be called a “gyro plate.” They also have what appears to be a delicious and healthy lentil soup (pictured). Hey, as long as there is no Turkey… (haha, get it?). Here’s to wishing MedFresh another successful three years.

Very funny, and interesting concept for a website. I’m not so sure however that I will be eating celery for the next eight months…
