DJ Manifesto is mixing at The Mint in Scottsdale tonight. We caught up with the mix master on how his career picked him and what he likes best about bringing the music to the people. Check him out tonight at The Mint’s Pre-Thanksgiving Party from 9:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. 

DLT: When did you become a DJ?

DJ Manifesto: I was 11 years old when I bought myself my first set of turntables (vinyl) and a rotary mixer. Then making a makeshift studio in my walking closet and spending hours after school teaching myself how to spin.

2. What prompted your DJ career?

Well it’s a long story. I used to be into extreme skating and my local YMCA would take weekly summer trips to the skate park out of town.

During a conversation with my bus driver, he told me he was a DJ on the side. At the time I wanted to sound cool so I told him I was a DJ as well with all the equipment and pretty much lied off my ass. At the end of the trip the bus driver invited me to the teen mixer event at the YMCA later that weekend. So that weekend I went to my first party to hang out with my new DJ friend. The night was pretty normal until around the last hour when the bus driver guy came up to me frantically saying that he just got a call from the hospital and his dad had a heart attack. “You are the only person in this room who understands this equipment and can DJ”, he said. Before I knew it, my 11-year-old self was DJ-ing a party when I had no idea what I was doing! The kids however loved what I did and asked for me specifically to come back to do the next show.

So long story short I ended up doing the rest of the summer YMCA events with the bus driver guy and the rest I guess is history. My parents always said “dj-ing chose you”.

 3. What’s the best thing about your job?

Everything !! Traveling, the nightlife and the people…just making people smile and dance for a living; I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I am so blessed!!! I love my life!

4. You’re a violinist as wel, do you mix some of your own music in with the tracks?

Yes I do. I try to incorporate a lot of my own music in my shows. Most of the tracks I play have the violin added into my own remixes or edits. I would say I produce as much as I play the violin. I try to be a well-rounded performer and entertainer.

5. You’re currently in Los Angeles, how often do you come to Arizona?

Well because I travel so much I can’t say it enough, but I strive for once a month to keep my fans happy as well as keeping in touch with my many AZ friends.

6. What’s your favorite spot to eat at in Phoenix?

My favorite spot to eat has to be Elements at Sanctuary Resort in Scottsdale. The amazing view compliments the food!!

7. What’s your cocktail of choice?

To be honest I am not a big drinker of cocktails or much of any alcohol.  I like to play with a sober state of mind while playing the violin.

Normally I might have one beer prior to show (preferably -  RED STRIPE or CORONA ) AND I LOVE WINE. And occasionally some champagne.

8. For news, Internet or paper?

For me it’s the radio or Internet… mostly the Internet since I am on the computer so much; I like CNN World News or Reddit. (And DLT, obviously!)

9. If you weren’t spinning at night, what career would you pick?

I would probably be a pilot either military or airline. I love to fly and was always obsessed with it when I was a kid.

10. If you had one last party to spin at, what would it be?

WOW that is one of the hardest questions ever lol, I am assuming this is like at the end of the world…I would first invite all my closet friends, family and fans to join in celebration with a big show underneath the moonlight on the beach.

Also maybe alongside one of my favorite artists ATB and we would rock the night away till the last second of the world and ending the night with my favorite song – AS THE RUSH COMES.
