Can we be the Thanksgiving equivalent of the Grinch? We are tired of all the turkey talk and it’s only Wednesday. How about a post free of poultry and filled with great news about new restaurants, not-so-great news about new restaurants and an easy holiday recipe that is a huge crowd pleaser. Here’s a redux of this week’s happenings in our favorite food blogs:
When given the opportunity to pick whether or not you want to hear good news or bad news first, we always go with bad to get it over with. It’s like ripping off the band-aid and then getting a popsicle. For this reason, we are starting the blog recap with EaterAZ’s no-so good review of O.H.S.O Eatery and nanoBrewery which just opened up on Indian School. The restaurant, which has only been open for a hot minute, has some great deals on a vast selection of beers on tap and an excellent wine list. The food, however, left a lot to be desired according to EaterAZ. We will let you read the review as it is ohso funny (and does not overuse that joke at all) as it describes the food in just the meanest of the mean way they were striving for. Mission accomplished.
In much better news, the chef behind such restaurant hits as The Mission in Old Town and Zinc Bistro in Kierland is at it again with another culinary masterpiece in the works. Can we raise the roof to Matt Carter’s new endeavor? Opening up in the prime location next to Grazie Pizzeria on Main Street in Old Town, The House will focus on international cuisine rather than the very specific food genres of this other children restaurants. Chow Bella via The Republic reported something about paella and poutine with a lower price point. If only you could see the raise the roof action going on in the office right now.
We don’t know if it’s the time of the year, but all of the usual suspects seem to be slacking on the blog updating these days and we hate to play favorites, but we do love a good local food post when we can get ‘em. Due to the lack of resources, we are going to throw out a recipe of our own (mother’s) creating. The world’s most simple artichoke dip just happens to be the most delicious and the one that will have everyone clamoring to the bowl and licking their fingers. Not speaking from experience or anything….
Ingredients
1. 1 14 ounce can of un-marinated artichoke hearts
2. 1 cup of grated parmesan cheese
3. 1 clove of minced garlic
4. 1 cup of mayonnaise (the real stuff, none of this “light” nonsense)
5. 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
6. Salt and peppa’ to taste
Simply drain and chop the artichokes, mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and bake for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve warm with crackers or tortilla chips. Double batches also work wonders for large parties and we have faith you can do the math to make it happen.
Until next week, stay interested in this column, my friends.
