Chow Down: This Week in Food Blogs

October 19, 2011 | 11:00 AM | Eat & Drink | By Alanna Watson

We have done the research and the “too much of a good thing” rule does not apply to food (blogs). Follow us down the rabbit hole and discover the joys of homemade peanut butter cups, anniversary celebrations and t.v. shows dedicated entirely to stuffing your face. Here’s a redux of this week’s happenings in our favorite food blogs:

In case you are reading this before your lunch break, we have a suggestion on where to go indulge thanks to Chow Bella. Turns out, Olive & Ivy is turning five years old today and rather than throwing a themed party and investing in a nightmare inducing clown, they are celebrating by practically giving away food (and literally giving away cake…guess that part is the same). Five dollar food and drink deals will be available all day. And, for the first 100 guests, free cake for dessert. High five!

Peanut butter and chocolate are pretty much the world’s greatest combination. In fact, we think they might just be the most successful long term relationship of all time, but there’s always room for improvement. In case you can’t make it to your local gas station to pick up the tradition Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, we offer this suggestion from Cupcakes and Cashmere: Make your own. Organic peanut butter and high quality chocolate apparently make all the difference. Emily uses this recipe here. Looks like the best can get better.

We are no strangers to Food Network fame here in the valley of the sun. Being featured on “Triple D”, “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” and having two iron chefs cooking up a storm in local restaurants pretty much solidifies us as a food destination, but now there’s another network to add to the food hall of fame. That’s right, Travel Channel’s “Man vs. Food “came to Old Town Scottsdale to feature Big Earl’s BBQ. Pen & Fork reports on the epic nature of the ‘Beast Feast’ ;

Big Earl’s BBQ threw down an irresistible food challenge called Leg of the Beast and Richman bit.

The challenge featured three Scottsdale firemen and three Scottsdale policemen.

Six men… 17 pounds of food… 30 minutes… Oh, plus a whole pecan pie.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the episode on November 23. Reminder to come.

Oh, and in case you didn’t know, this weekend’s Arizona Taco Festival was great….and hot. But don’t take our word for it, read all the self-review (the good, bad and ugly) straight from EaterAZ’s mouth.

Until next week, keep that stomach expanded, my friends.
