The Board Room

Seems like skateboarding is back in business for weekend-warriors. Big kids like us are retiring our bikes and roller-blades for the more exciting ride of a long board. The nostalgia of our days back at The Wedge in Tempe, hanging and boarding on the weekends, has driven us to Kids That Rip indoor skate park.

Skateboarding may seem a silly hobby to partake in past the age of 10, but all ages can reap its benefits, which include increased hand-eye coordination, balance and of course, fun. Kids That Rip (KTR), hosts many heavily padded private lessons for all ages on their award winning ramps and bowls in the 45,000 square foot air-conditioned skate and gymnastics center. After hearing this story over the weekend of a man who destroyed his friend’s patio to build him a surprise skateboard ramp, we suggest you keep your ax to yourself and hit the sweet bowls at KTR.

We ran into Robin Wilson of the Gin Blossoms at a private lesson recently. Robin describes the “gravity” sport as “meditative” and we agree. The nostalgia of the sport, the glide of the ride and the focus of the next trick (or preventing the next fall), leaves us feeling both excited and accomplished.
