Chow Down: This Week in Food Blogs

September 14, 2011 | 1:00 PM | Eat & Drink | By Alanna Watson

If your stomach is growling and your blood sugar is so low you’re considering a trip to the vending machine as an alternative to eating your arm, you know it’s Wednesday afternoon. Here’s a redux of this week’s happenings in our favorite food blogs:

In honor of  New York Fashion Week, we thought it necessary to share this “Don’t Feed the Models” Cocktail recipe from Refinery 29. It’s funny and only an astonishing 178 calories. Suck one back to rock it like Miranda, Gisele or Heidi (even if you still look like a normal human being).  Recipe after the jump.

Ingredients: 2 oz. Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka: 120 calories (typically vodkas have 100 calories per shot (1.5 oz) versus the 90 in Crop)
.75 oz. Fresh Lime: 2 calories.
.75 oz. Simple Syrup: 40 calories.
.5 oz. Cucumber Juice: 4 calories.
Fresh Mint: 12 calories.

Preparation Notes:
In a mixing glass, muddle one cucumber slice and combine all ingredients; shake vigorously. Strain into a Martini glass, garnish with a cucumber slice.

Now that you have a guilt-free-buzz, we will keep up with this healthy trend by sharing another fashionista’s recipe for a Quinoa Tabbouleh. Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere transforms the low carb and bland to a delicious, citrusy salad that just screams health food. Get the recipe she used from the Vancouver Sun here.

After sucking back too many cocktails on a stomach full of tabbouleh, you may have just a splash of a fashion week hangover, but Chow Bella has got you covered with the Patio Chimi from Mi Patio. The deep fried tortilla stuffed with chicken or beef and then covered in a green tomatillo sauce will more than make up for the healthfest above (in more ways then one). Named one of the top 100 dishes by Chow Bella, this sounds like the perfect deep fried fix for a fashion filled evening.
