Hungry? We can’t help you out with that. We can, however, tell you where to go, what to eat and what to make as covered by our favorite food bloggers… just like an overbearing mother. Here’s a redux of this week’s happenings in our favorite food blogs:
You know the saying, “It’s so hot here you could fry an egg on the sidewalk” ? Well, it’s cliche and we’re pretty sure Myth Busters disproved that cracked theory years ago, but how about baking cookies on your dashboard? The genius idea came from Chow Bella and the crazy thing is, it actually worked. Take a baking dish, cookie dough and a dashboard in Phoenix on a hot summer day and you can actually bake cookies in just 90 minutes. The baking dish will heat up to 200 degrees and hold steady for long enough to even over cook the dough. Don’t believe it? Read the whole post here and, if you have nothing to do with your life, try it for yourself.
It has been awhile since we’ve covered Dominic Armato’s blog, Skillet Doux (the reason is, as we’ve mentioned
before, because he writes novels about food and our reading comprehension has been reduced to 160 characters or less), but this week he has embarked on a pretty interesting adventure and we can’t wait to read all about it. The McDowell Project, as he calls it, will follow the culinary escapades of a foodie foot soldier starting from McDowell Rd. and 52nd St. and heading west. Armato will literally stop at every place that serves food until he hits Central Ave or until a year is up and will post accordingly. Sounds like an amazing way to find out about hidden gems and terribly overrated restaurants from one very reliable (and thorough) blogger.
If whipping up dinner out of your pantry is something you aspire to do, you should regularly read Food Tramp Diaries. Mom on the go, Erin, is masterful at creating healthy meals with minimal planning like this recipe for Chicken Brocoli Mac N’ Cheese. You may eat with your eyes first, but we’re pretty sure your stomach has the final say.
4 Boneless skinless chicken breasts cubed
1- 12 oz bag frozen broccoli
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1/4 cup sour cream
3 cups shredded cheese (I used cheddar/jack blend)
1 cup hot water
3 cloves garlic put through press
2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
1/2 tsp Chef Prudhomme’s Poultry Magic seasoning
1/2 tsp Lawry’s seasoned salt
Fresh cracked pepper
Cube chicken (mine was still quite frozen) and place in bottom of crock pot. Sprinkle seasonings on chicken. Pour frozen broccoli into crock pot. Mix cream of chicken, cheddar cheese soup, and fresh garlic with the hot water. Add this to crock pot & stir mixture. Cook on high (1 & 1/2 hours) until the chicken is cooked, then turn to low. On stovetop add noodles to boiling water, only cook for 5 minutes on stovetop, no longer. Drain noodles and add to crock pot with sour cream and shredded cheese. Continue cooking on low until you are ready to enjoy!
Until next week, keep listening to your overbearing mother, my friends.
