Raise the Curtain

No need to travel to the Big Apple for your favorite Broadways shows because local theatres are bringing the classics right here to the Valley. The 2011-12 season lineups have been released and it looks like another year of talent and entertainment ahead of us. Check out what shows are coming to the Valley after the jump. To kick the season off right, the tour of the smash hit Broadway revival of West Side Story is coming to Tempe at ASU Gammage from September 27th-October 2nd. Following West Side Story, the Blue Man Group, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, Rogers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific, Green Day’s American Idiot, La Cage Aux Folles and Million Dollar Quartet. Season tickets start at $114.  Also coming to ASU Gammage is Stomp, Wicked and Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles. Tickets for these special performances can be purchased this fall.

The 2011-12 Arizona Theatre Company lineup includes Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of The Suicide Club, God of Carnage, Daddy Long Legs, Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps, The Great Gatsby and Red. Season tickets start at $100.

Playing at The Phoenix Theater this season is Boeing Boeing, Spitfire Grill, A Christmas Story, The Marvelous Wonderettes and Gypsy. Season tickets start at $99.

The Actors Theatre of Phoenix is presenting Edith Head, Next Fall, Hunter Gatherers, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Body Awareness and Time Stands Still this season. Performances take place at Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix. Season tickets start at $113.

It’s Fairytale Season for Ballet Arizona which means Cinderella, The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty are on the 2011-12 schedule. Season subscriptions begin at $84.

The second annual Herberger Theater Festival of the Arts is October 1st from 1-5pm with performances by Valley arts organizations, food, live music, children’s activities, art and film festival shorts. Admission is free for kids 12 and under and $5 for adults.
