Quick, what is this odd-shaped structure at left? A condo complex? No. Vertical arboretum? Wrong. Airport control tower? Good guess, but still, no. This mind boggling structure has been erected in India of all places and is 27 stories tall. Keep the guesses coming, you’ll never get it (unless you cheated). Find out more after the jump.

Rightfully named “Antilla” after a mythical island, and built for Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India (fourth richest in the world), this monstrosity is his new $1 billion (some sources say $2 billion) house. Yes, house. We know, holy $@*% was our reaction too! This “house” breaks explodes the record for most expensive house in the world and is the first house to exceed $1 billion. In fact, its 37,000 square meters of interior space even exceeds that of the Palace of Versailles.

Built for a single family consisting of Mukesh, his wife and three children, you’re probably wondering how one can outfit a house this big. Well, each family member will have their own personal health club with a gym, there’s also a dance studio, ballroom, guest rooms, a variety of lounges, a six-level garage for 168 cars, a panic room, a garden on each level, a 50 seat cinema and more. The house is complete with a staff of 600, which must make it really difficult to learn everybody’s name.

Ambani, who owns a majority of Reliance Industries (oil, retail and biotech conglomerate), is worth $25 billion. Located in the heart of Mumbai, apparently Ambani is not phased by the Indian Prime Minister’s recent request for business leaders to be “role models of moderation.”
