New York-Style, Grand Canyon State

Three words: Arizona. Cheesecake. Bakery.

Not everyone has the culinary perseverance of Julia Child or the time and domesticity of June Cleaver. Thus, we buy our creamy, New York-style cheesecake. But, because we have impeccable taste, we cannot stomach celebrating holidays with that cardboard “graham cracker” crust from The Cheesecake Factory. (Sorry, neighbor).

We’ve scrounged local farmer’s markets to discover the most tantalizing local pastries, “research” that led us to Arizona Cheesecake Bakery and the best blondie brownie crust we’ve ever tasted!

After baking up a savory-sweet reputation at various Valley public markets, Arizona Cheesecake Bakery (a family-owned and operated bakery in Mesa) opened its own storefront back in 2010. Drop by today to indulge in more than 48 flavors of handmade, gourmet cheesecakes crafted exclusively from local Arizona-grown and produced ingredients.

Owner, Nick Pitarys, said “As a local Arizona company, in a tough economy, it is increasingly important to show our support for local growers and bakers. Arizona Cheesecake Bakery is pleased to showcase this by offering fellow vendors a space to make and sell their wonderful creations and satisfying coffees.” It is still Independents Week, folks! The bakery’s famous sweet red chile and dark chocolate flavored cake sounds like the perfect addition to DLT’s 4 of July BBQ. (It helped the bakery rank as one of the Top 6 Sweet Shops in Phoenix in December 2009 by AboutPhoenix.com and earn a feature in Phoenix Magazine in November 2009)!

Visit the new retail space: 1305 W. Guadalupe Rd. They’ll even deliver right to your home if that homemade key lime pie is not pleasing … or, if you just don’t want to make that key lime pie.

I’m originally from New York and I know my NY cheesecake. I tried this place out last week on a suggestion from a friend. Hands down – it ROCKS! I had a slice of Red Chili & Dark Chocolate (which I give a 9.5 out of 10) and a slice of S’mores (9 out of 10). My wife had the classic NY-style and she honestly gave it a 10! I licked the plate it had been on and had to agree.

If you are craving a taste of back-East cheesecake, take it from a friend: Try these guys out. You will NOT be disappointed.

This is the BEST Cheesecake I have ever had! The Red Chili and Dark Chocolate (which I was hesitant to try) was absolutely yummy! I give this bakery a 10 ++++

I’m originally from New York, too. Seriously, this cheesecake is amazing! I had the Tiramisu, and it was soooooo delicious. Going back this weekend for more. Go on down to the bakery, meet Nick, and treat yourself! Very reasonable prices, by the way.
