Talk about turning lemons into lemonade. Planned in the middle of the Valley’s recent real estate boom, when it was finally completed a few years later, the owners of a soaring 26-story high-rise in Downtown Phoenix found themselves with a mostly empty building in the middle of one of the worst real estate markets in history. So they threw out a Hail Mary and and ended up with something Heavenly.
Yes, the new Westin Downtown Phoenix (featuring this upscale hotel chain’s famed Heavenly beds) opens today inside the sleek Freeport-McMoRan Center. In case you’re wondering, the building is named after its other occupant, the world’s largest publicly traded copper company, which located its worldwide HQ inside the building’s the top floors.
Get all the details, including a smoking-hot grand opening rate and see a full picture gallery, after the jump.
Here, Westin guests here will discover 242 sleek hotel rooms as well as the new Province restaurant. Even cooler, because it was originally constructed as a commercial space, each room features 9 1/2 food celings and a spacipous 540-square foot floorplan. That said, you might want to spring for one of the 28 corner suites; featuring sweeping city views and they were originally designed to house corporate bigwigs and high-powered lawyers. Check it all out for the red-hot grand opening rate of $139 a night. However, don’t bother packing your bathing suit because the pool won’t open until the end of the month.
