Well, here’s something you don’t see every day. A 32-year-old Gilbert man was pried out of a 40-foot sewer hole that he’d fled down to escape the cops. According the Arizona Republic, Eugene Gimzelberg (not pictured) was discovered after two passersby reported they heard someone screaming for help in a field north of Loop 202 and Higley Rd. The responding officers found the suspect “naked except for one shoe” and suffering from injuries sustained when he tumbled into the sewer hole.
Turns out Mr Gimzelberg had been (surprise, surprise) smoking PCP and marijuana as well as eating magic mushrooms, and had fled into the sewer when cops showed up earlier in response to reports of a suspicious man shambling around the neighborhood.
Eventually, a firefighter strapped into a harness was able to extract the man from the manhole, and Gimzelberg’s been charged with trespassing and criminal damage.
Sounds like this guy’s been drinking the toilet water in Chandler, or maybe hanging out with the orange-tossing, plane-hating paint-huffer over in Mesa.
