Normally we don’t cover local politics because it’s divisive and, well, boring. Not that we don’t make exceptions for silly stuff like a local politician shilling in a goofy infomercial, or the Gov painfully-flubbing a simple question. However, we’re about to get on our high horse here, so if you’re looking for our usual fun stuff you might want to keep on moving.
Still with us? Good, because this one’s a doozy. Remember State Senator Russell Pearce, aka the driving force behind the Arizona’s controversial (and costly) anti-immigration law? The same Mesa-based blowhard (pictured below) who’s now pushing to amend the US Constitution so the children of illegal immigrants will no longer be given US citizenship. A practice that’s been slapped with the nasty term “anchor babies” for the implication that people only have these children to help them stay in the US.
But as it turns out, Senator Pearce’s own child is turning into a serious anchor on his political ambitions. Yes, Joshua Pearce, the charming-looking gentleman at left with the Nazi-like Iron Eagle neck tattoo is now cooling his heels in a Phoenix jail after being arrested (again).
It seems Joshua Pearce, a 30-year-old unemployed roofer, has been in jail since Feb 9 for violating his probation related to a 2006 arrest for driving under the influence of illegal and prescription drugs with his then girlfriend (now wife) and their five-day-old son in the car. Yeeesh. Sadly, this is just one of a string of more than 20 brushes with the law for the younger Pearce, including a laundry list of Extreme DUIs, physical assaults and, most disturbing, multiple allegations of child abuse.
In fact, this past December police were called by doctors at Mesa’s Banner Desert Medical Center to investigate a skull fracture sustained by Joshua Pearce’s nine-day-old child. According to the Phoenix New Times, his wife’s explanation for how the injury occurred, falling out of a bouncy chair while under Joshua’s supervision, did not jibe with the injury’s severity. Meanwhile, the chair in question was found covered in dust in the couple’s backyard, and the Pearce’s other kids did not corroborate their parents’ tale.
Needless to say, the kids are now in foster care. However, “Mesa PD ultimately decided not to file charges on Josh, even though investigators did not believe he was being truthful in his account of the child’s injury,” the PNT reports.
Boy, it’s good thing we don’t judge children for the sins of their parents here in the good ol’ US of A. Nor do we judge politicians for the sins of their children, apparently.
But wait, this sad story gets worse. Turns out that Russell Pearce has had his own run-ins with the law, including allegations of spousal abuse. However, the normally spotlight-loving Senator has so far refused all media requests to respond to any of the above matters. Ugh, who else needs a shower?
