Robata-Style Romance

February 11, 2011 | 10:39 AM | Restaurants | By Staff

So who’s ready for a super-romantic (and free!) rendezvous this V-Day? We just snagged the last Monday reservation (seriously) at the sumptuous Roka Akor in Scottsdale, and want to treat you and a guest to a posh dining experience at this stunning Asian-style sanctuary. Named one of the nation’s best sushi spots by Bon Appétit, it’s also home to the Valley’s only Japanese robata (or charcoal fired) grill. And all weekend they are featuring a chef-crafted Valentine’s Day tasting menu brimming with crazy-good delights (think: Prime filet with chili ginger sauce and robata-grilled mushrooms in soy garlic butter). Priced at $79 per person (minimum 2 people), we’re giving away diner for two at 6 pm Monday to one lucky reader. Wanna win? Simply state your case in one sentence or less in our comments board below.

Valentine’s Day dinner (as well as full regular menu) offered all weekend long; call 480-306-8800 to make your reservation.

My case? We’re young married college students who won’t be having a fancy Valentine’s dinner because we spend all our money replacing other people’s belongings when our dog chews them up. :-) Ah, the price we pay for doggy companionship!

If we dont win, Joy, Cory, Craig , Charles (Wayne Newton) Ryan will miss us to the point of devastation, may leave their posts crying into all that amazing food making it all soggy, devastating the other patrons, tainting this wonderful American Holiday thereby bringing Foreign Tourism to America to a screaming stop, ruining the economy, more than it already is, creating world wide pressures and finally eliminating any possibility for world peace.

My fiancé loves their sushi and robata grill, and with our recent engagement, and my recent hospitalization and surgery — she deserves to have a special night.

If I win, I promise to stop my husband from writing all these convoluted story lines, trying to win this dinner and just tell everyone that this is the best restaurant in the Valley, bar none and I could not imagine a Valentines day celebration without the Roka Akor food experience and their heartwarming staff.

I haven’t had great sushi since moving here from CT 3 years ago. I was not aware of this restaurant and would LOVE to take my BF out for V-day (he is currently unemployed and we can’t afford a fancy meal).

Okay, I’ve been married for 12 years and my husband has never even done ONE THING for me for Valentine’s Day. His first marriage date was Valentine’s Day and he always told me that he just couldn’t get into the spirit after his divorce. My nine year old daughter told him this year to stop using that “Sorry old excuse, and Man up and take my mom to dinner!”

So……..he asked me if I’d like to go out this year! I really would!
