Party Like it’s 1912

January 31, 2011 | 8:55 AM | Restaurants | By Frank Johnson

Psst. Just a quick reminder that someone you know has a birthday coming up, and it’s kind of a big deal. Yes, next February 14 the state of Arizona turns 100, and one local restaurant is already planning a party. The Stockyards Restaurant (which has only been around since 1947) is working on a special Centennial Menu, and is inviting all amateur chefs to submit their best recipes.

Founded by local cattle baron, Ed Tovrea (who also owned the pink wedding cake-like Tovrea Castle next door), the Stockyards was once a working feed lot. Now this clubby chophouse is working with the Arizona Centennial Commission to create a special menu to honor 100 years of statehood. Simply click here to submit your recipe, to featured at the Stockyards beginning February 14, 2011.

Looking for inspiration? Check out this review by a local food critic, who got up close and personal with the Stockyards most infamous menu item.
