Weekend Guide

January 28, 2011 | 2:31 PM | Events | By Staff

Oh, Friday. How do we love thee? Let us count the ways with another jam-packed (and pedestrian-friendly) Weekend Guide. Yes, all of our events are located side-by-side-by-side in Downtown Phoenix, starting this Saturday as your Phoenix Suns host the 10th Annual Celebrity Shootout. OK, so techincally it looks more like a cast reunion for “Stomp The Yard 2″ as at least three of the ‘celebs’ participating in this year’s charity basketball game starred in that fine flick. But seriously, this game is always a great time and will also feature a who’s who of hip hop & RnB stars, including Common, Romeo and Chris Brown. (Yes, that Chris Brown).

Then again, if you’re more of a “Hulk smash”-type, you might want to head across the street to check out the car-pancaking action at Monster Jam. Hosted at Chase Field, 10 of the world’s top tricked-out trucks will be competing for top honors, including Grave Digger. (What, did Big Foot have a previous engagement?)

Looking for something a little more cosmopolitan, but still damn cool? Three years after BODY WORLDS  creeped us out brought record crowds to the Arizona Science Center, this morbid masterpiece returns with an all new exhibition. Named BODY WORLDS & The Brain, expect more preserved and posed corpses, with a special focus on what’s going on inside your noggin. “The brain is an incredible marvel of engineering. I wanted people to recognize what is known about this amazing gem inside our heads, and be awed by its possibilities and capacities,” says show inventor, Dr. Frankenstein Gunther von Hagens.

Sounds quite revealing!
