The Weekender: Malted Bourbon Shake

January 28, 2011 | 5:05 PM | Bars | By Staff

For an upgraded version of the burger and milkshake combos enjoyed at retro diners, re-visit Bourbon Steak’s Bar Burger Menu. And by upgrade we mean foie gras as a burger topping and alcohol rich milkshakes. The Malted Bourbon Shake is a spiked salty and sweet combo that pairs perfectly with any one of Michael Mina’s mouthwatering burgers. Make one at home with the recipie below or head to Bourbon Steak yourself. We promise you won’t miss the greasy countertops or jukebox tunes of the diner dive.

Ingredients:
28 oz. sugar
1/2 vanilla bean
14 1/2 oz. cream
1 1/4 tsp. fine sea salt
3 scoops vanilla ice cream
1.5 oz Jim Beam
1 oz. milk
1 oz. half and half
1 tbsp. malted milk powder

Preparation:
Heat the sugar to a dark caramel, lowering the heat as proper color is approached. Add cream, salt, and vanilla. Mix thoroughly over low heat. Reserve and refrigerate to cool. For shake: blend ice cream, bourbon, milk, half and half, and powder until completely smooth. Drizzle sauce on inside of glass, then pour milkshake into a glass and top with lightly sweetened whipped cream and remaining caramel.
