Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. A local restaurant is trying to drum up sales (and score tons of free publicity) by offering Lion Meat. Yup, just like that winebar in Mesa that was bombarded with media attention (and death threats) after it announced its plan to sell lion burgers last summer. The only difference this time is it’s lion tacos. Which makes us wonder if EATERAZ has the jalapenos to invite them to participate in the next AZ Taco Fest. More roar after the jump.
According to ABC, “a Tucson Tex-Mex joint which in the past has served alligator, python and turtle tacos plans to put lion on its menu for one night only in February, provided enough diners express interest in chowing down on the big cat.”
And whatever your feelings about eating exotic meat, it appears to be legal. Click here to learn more from the California company that actually distributes the African Lion meat. Meanwhile, the fur is flying fast and furious on the restaurant’s Facebook page, as commenters battle back and forth.
Sample exchange: “(Bleep) you bryan mazon … (bleep) you. i wish i had something more intelligent to say, but because of your shameless actions, i am speechless.”
“I’m driving to Tucson just to eat your tacos. Possibly lion. If there are protesters, I will squirt hot sauce on them.”
Finally, we’d tell you the name of the restaurant, but that would give this goofball more free pub, which the owner has admitted was his main reason for the controversial menu addition. Let’s just say Bocas Tacos and Tequila won’t be making our next edition of We ♥ Tucson.
