Sinkholes Strike San Diego

December 30, 2010 | 10:09 AM | News | By Staff

Sinkholes in Sedona are one thing. But don’t you dare mess with our fav summertime getaway. Yes, while the Valley shivers its way through a nasty cold streak, San Diego is still recovering from weeks of rain and flooding. Most recently, a 12-foot-wide, 18-foot-deep sinkhole opened up overnight right next to an apartment building.

To paraphrase “The Simpsons” news anchor, Kent Brockman, it sounds like it’s time to panic.

According to reports, 18 residents of an apartment building were evacuated after it was determined the sinkhole was partially under the foundation of the two-story structure. The sinkhole was near the building’s front porch.

Then again, it looks like there’s a silver lining to this crazy storm system, as the drought-stricken mountains across California, Colorado and Arizona are getting absolutely plastered with snow.
