Two new Valley movie theaters are giving new meaning to the term “dinner and a movie.” Scheduled to open next month at the Scottsdale Quarter, flicks meet fine-dining at IPic Theaters. But first, drop by the UltraStar Cinemas opening this Friday, November 19 at the Scottsdale Pavilions, to experience the wild new ride known as D-BOX enhanced motion technology seating.
Here, each seat has been pre-programed to shake, rumble and tilt in perfect sync with all the on-screen action. UltraStar Scottsdale officially debuts with a midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 on Friday morning, but is already open and offering FREE movies. Deets after the jump!
For only $9.75 per ticket (plus a $3.50 convience fee) UltraStar Cinemas brings more than delicious buttered popcorn and beautiful digital screens to a night at the movies. The first AZ location of UltraStar opened up in Surprise in the far North West Valley, followed by Lake Havasu and now this luxe theater chain has finally made its way to Scottsdale. This third AZ location will offer a host of unique amenities including; D-BOX enhanced motion seating, Pure Digital Cinema and in-seat food and beverage service. (Booze and gourmet movie eats included.)
The UltraLuxe Scottsdale theater will have 11 auditoriums showcasing Pure Digital Cinema, the crispest, clearest motion picture technology available. Five of the auditoriums will including VIP viewing rooms with XXL leather chairs and reserved seating for the 21 and over to order food and beverage from their seats without missing a minute of the movie. The Cinema Cafe will offer gourmet eats including flavored popcorns, hummus, pizza, paninis , Italian sodas, specialty coffees, desserts and beer and wine.
Parent Movie Mornings will arrive at the theater in December, allowing parents to bring their screaming babies and toddlers to the movies without fear of it bothering others. The theater auditoriums will cater to parents, as changing tables will be set up in the back. Until we find out where the waste goes, we suggest a seat up front.
Now for the best part, the FREE movies! Just remember, seats are first come first serve.

Say goodbye to getting told by theater staff to “please put your feet down” because these leather seats are recliners baby! Coming to the Scottsdale Quarter next month, this haute movie house will offer in-seat dining featuring a full entree and cocktail menu. Hungry? Thirsty? Tipsy? Just press the call button on your plush recliner to order drinks, dinner or a blanket and pillow. Don’t forget to valet the Ferrari, it’s included in the ticket price.
Even though Harkins Theatres may not have D-BOX seating, they do have Loyalty Cups! The 2011 cup ($4.50) and T-Shirt($25) is set to go on sale Thursday, November 18. Loyalty moviegoers will receive $1 soft drink refills when they show their loyalty and bring back the cup, and FREE popcorn all year long when they wear the Harkins T-Shirt to the movies. (Tip: We wouldn’t recommend wearing it on a first date.) However, we do suggest Harkins steps it up to Loyalty Mugs and offers $1 beer refills to keep up with the other fancy-schmansy theaters in town.
