As chosen by you, here are the most popular stories OF ALL TIME (aka last week). Just in case you missed it.
Calling all Valley foodies, food bloggers and other food lovers who hate to cook. Schedule a reminder into your smart phone, because these three exciting new restaurants are all scheduled to open up this month …
Amaro Pizzeria and Vino Lounge
Now open daily for dinner, this Calabrian-style Italian restaurant and pizzeria will host its Official Grand Opening Party on Thursday, November 11 from 4-6 pm. Serving up classic Italian dishes and wood-fired pizzas, Amaro owners, Tagan Dering and Frank Vario, previously worked at the longtime Scottsdale hotspot, Cowboy Ciao, so you know there will also be plenty of great vino on hand.
Even better, Amaro is also kid-friendly, including a pizza-making station where kids can knead their own pizza dough and chose their own toppings alongside chef Jon Spahr. Meanwhile, an 11-seat mozzarella and charcuterie bar overlooks the chef’s counter and one of AZ’s largest wood fire ovens. Plus, this upscale family-oriented restaurant is reasonably priced with signature pasta and pizzas starting at $10. Even more good news, happy hour (4-6 pm daily) includes $5 pizzas, apps, wines martinis and $2.50 brews. 28234 N. Tatum Blvd., Cave Creek
Scheduled to open in north Scottsdale early this month, Local Bistro is a European-influenced restaurant specializing in pizza, pasta, steak and wine. Although more of a casual dining experience, LB’s straightforward menu promises signature dishes and wood-fired pizza all prepared by respected resort chef, Andrea Volpi. Plus, Volpi promises to feature (nearly) all-locally-sourced ingredients, and make all dishes from scratch, including the mozzarella, pasta and pasta sauces. All cocktails prepared at the bar will have a strong emphasis on farm-to-bar ingredients as well.
Restauranteur German Osio is venturing into the Valley after launching several successful restaurants in Texas, including a steak house that was named “Best Steakhouse of the Year” in Dallas. That helps to explain why the mostly Italian bistro will have a niche in the fleshy cut of beef. Local Bistro will be open weekdays for lunch, brunch on weekends and dinner on days … “that end with the letter Y.” 20581 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale
Famed chef/restauranteur, Aaron May (Iruña, Over Easy, The Lodge, Mabel’s on Main), is opening yet another Valley eatery on Friday, November 12 inside inside CityScape. Named Vitamin T, it’s inspired by “Vitamina T”, a Mexican slang term for comidas corridas (meals on the run) or foods beginning with the letter T (Tacos, Tortillas, Tostadas, Tamales and Tequila?), and hopes to bring authentic Mexican street food to Downtown Phoenix.
Describes by May as a “Mexican running food” joint, the restaurant space, adjacent to LGO Public House inside the new $900 million CityScape development, is a ‘hole in the wall’ featuring only 10 seats inside and 25 more on the patio. Designed to resemble a traditional Mexico City-style mercaditos, this take-out friendly restaurants will offer authentic tortas, tacos and tequila drinks, as well as a housemade salsa bar. Sounds perfect for time-crunched taco-loving urban dwellers. One E. Washington St., Phoenix
