Farm Fed Affair

October 15, 2010 | 11:00 AM | Restaurants | By Anna Bussert

Tables5Of all places, Winkelman, AZ is the place to be this Saturday, October 16, for a way-cool culinary experience. Held at Doublecheck Ranch, this grass-fed cattle operation located about 75 miles east of the Valley will play host to the internationally traveling farm-to-table tour, Outstanding in the Field.

Created by chef Jim Denevan and featured in publications such as the New York Times, GQ and Condé Nast Traveler, the roadshow tours to different cities in a retro/awesome bus giving attendees the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of city life as they taste the works of world-renown chefs. More details on this sumptuous soiree and a slideshow of past events after the jump.

James Beard Award-winning chef and local restaurant owner, Melissa Kelly, will be preparing the multi-course menu she personally crafted. Kelly was chosen because of her outstanding ability to work with farm fresh ingredients. She has been featured on Anthony Bourdain’s show, No Reservations (love it) for, Primo, her farm-to-table restaurant in Maine where everything used in her dishes is sourced from the backyard farm and ranch, including the meat! Even better, Kelly recently opened a new Primo here in Tucson, which also contains organic, fresh ingredients but not the same farm-to-table experience.

Tickets are still available for $180 and if you’re looking to make a weekend getaway out of it, we recommend Aravaipa Farms, a fabulously quaint bed and breakfast not far from the farm.
