Whatsy? Etsy

September 17, 2010 | 9:38 AM | Exhibits | By Meghan Luther

For years, Local First Arizona has been extolling the virtues of supporting mom-and-pops such as Frances Vintage and Lola Coffee. But how can you support local artisans when buying online? That’s where Etsy comes in!

Founded in June 2005, Etsy is a virtual marketplace. Its mission is to enable people to make a living making things, reconnect makers with buyers and create a new economy. Some of our favorite local Etsy sellers are lilyjillbowtiques, annieWHERE (her paper goods are also sold at MADE Gallery), metalinclinations and NestaHome. Any summer birthdays coming up? Buy handmade local.

Craving Etsy guidance outside your zip code? Fill your shopping cart with goods from our favorite Top 10 Etsy Sellers and our Summer of Etsy post.

Excellent suggestion! Buying from local artists not only helps keep a unique creative community thriving in our state, it keeps more money in our state’s economy for police & fire departments, park departments, education etc.
Think about it- when you purchase items online from an out-of-state business, zero dollars stay in Arizona!
