DIY Friday: Ravishing Ribbon Medallions

September 10, 2010 | 10:26 AM | Exhibits | By Meghan Luther

Though we found this project on a wedding blog (don’t judge us), we think the final product is suitable for nesting the home, decorating the dorm or surprising the friend way-too-many miles away. They’re a little bit second-grade-swim-meet and a little bit beauty pageant, but altogether adorable! “Designed and crafted by the cutest girls ever, the owners of the fabulous Posh Paperie, and photographed by the hugely talented Ms. Jackie Wonders… this is the sweetest way to start our day,” says Abby Larsen of Style Me Pretty (said wedding blog). Materials and directions after the jump!

What You Need:
Various colors and bolts of ribbons,
red tape, vintage buttons, circle die-cut punches, circle punch (2.5 – 3 inches in diameter) to punch cardstock circles, scissors

What You Do: Buy ribbons in a veritable plethora of colors, textures and widths to mix and match within the medallion ribbons. Take the circle punch mechanism and cover with adhesive. Then, “ruffle” the ribbon alongside the edges of the circle – to create a border. Select a contrasting color and repeat the same step in a smaller diameter. Next, adhere a vintage button to the center of the ruffled ribbon medallions. Place adhesive on the back, and cut the lengths of the “tails” to desired length. Create again (and again) in various colors and lengths. And, last but certainly not least, pick a few unexpected, whimsical places to put your creations!
