We’re now thinking pizza party thanks to our pals at Scoop Factory:
We’ve all been there. You’re planning a nice get-together or a happy hour pig-out with friends, when suddenly (whah-whah) someone has a food allergy. Before you know it, you’re looking at a meal of broiled chicken or bread-less ’pizza.’ And forget about dessert, unless you want to be the one scarfing down cupcakes in front of your starving, gluten-adverse friend. Well fear not, because we’ve discovered three gluten-free treats guaranteed to taste like honest-to-goodness food.
In partnership with Connecticut supplier, Still Riding Pizza, the Valley’s-own, NYPD Pizza is offering a vertible plethora of gluten-free pies (Gilbert/Warner location only). In fact, the Gilbert location is even equipped with a separate oven and prep area dedicated exclusively to baking gluten-free pizzas. And this Sept. 20-26, the same location also hosts a gluten-free week, in which 20 percent of every check including a gluten-free item will be donated to the Celiac Support Group of Phoenix and the East Valley Celiac Support Group. 211 E. Warner Rd., 480-632-6973
Popcornopolis is a 75-year-old gourmet popcorn company offering all-natural, gluten-free munchies! The following flavors might even make Willy Wonka proud: Sour Cream and Onion, Cinnamon Toast, Rocky Road, Caramel Pecan, Strawberries and Cream, Zebra Chocolate and White Chocolate Pumpkin Spice. Create your own assortments here.
Sprinkles Cupcakes is now offering gluten-free and vegan cupcakes, and you’ve got to try them. Traditional dairy products are substituted with vegan-friendly and gluten-free ingredients, including the following: gluten-free flour, all natural soymilk, tofu cream cheese (for that delicious Southern-style frosting) and pure coconut oil. Look for the bright red “V” for vegan red velvet and a bright red “G” for gluten-free red velvet. Finally a proper use for the scarlet letter! Make a box at the Scottsdale Sprinkles location: 4501 N. Scottsdale Rd., 480-970-4321
