AZ Wine BarrelsJoin us tonight for a wine-fueled fundraiser to support AZ winemakers as they recover from a devastating storm.

When life gives you lemons, drink AZ wines! While it’s been a relatively mild monsoon season here in the Valley, it’s been wet and wild down south. So much so that we just received word about a weather-related catastrophe down in Arizona’s wine country. This Sunday, a severe hail storm hit the wineries sprinkled around Sonoita and Elgin, all-but wiping out the entire crop of grapes that were to be harvested in the next couple of weeks to make this year’s wines. Now, instead of preparing for the huge annual harvest, these mostly mom-and-pop wineries will be working around the clock just to save the plants so they can survive winter.

In response, our pals at Moses Anshell will be hosting a wine- and food-filled fundraiser at their offices in Downtown Phoenix today from 4 - 6 pm. Named Wine Aid 2010, there will be plenty of complimentary appetizers and nibbles, as well as Arizona wine samples from the Sonoita/Elgin area. All they are asking in return is that guests make a donation in the collection box. All funds raised will be passed on directly to the most hard-hit wineries, including Callaghan Vineyards, Dos Cabezas Wineworks, Canelo Hills Winery and more.

Didn’t even know Arizona had a wine country, including award-winning wines that have been poured at the White House? Visit the Arizona Wine Growers Association to learn more.
