Feasts of Fury: Heart Attack Grill’s Quadruple Bypass Burger Challenge [Phx New Times]
With its great success at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, the documentary “The Tillman Story”, directed by Amir Bar-Lev, opened at select theaters (read: NY and LA) on August 20. Lucky for us, starting this Friday, September 3, one of those select theaters will also be Harkins Camelview 5 in Scottsdale. See the full trailer after the jump.
Tomorrow evening, our favorite Mill Ave pizzeria and wine bar, La Bocca, is hosting a tasty fundraiser. Named Wine with Benefits, this tasting event pairs artisan bruschettas (delish) with 10 lights-out wines–all to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Arizona Chapter.
It seems the brewers of Fat Tire know how to make an equally as delicious ride. Problem is, it’s pretty difficult to get a hold of one. You can win one at a New Belgium sponsored event (i.e. Scottsdale Culinary Festival, Tour de Fat), or work for a full year at this Fort Collins, CO-based brewery. But now we’ve got the scoop on how you can score one of these beer-fueled beauties.
Did you know that the Old Pueblo is home to one of the nation’s most cutting-edge art galleries and photography museums? Check it out for yourself as Tucson’s Center for Creative Photography hosts The Edge of Vision: Abstraction in Contemporary Photography exhibit starting on September 4.
September is just around the corner. We hope you listened when we said ”save the dates” back in July because the line up for the Arizona Fall Frenzy keeps getting bigger and better. The 2nd Annual Fall Frenzy, along the Tempe Beach Waterfront, kicks off September 17 with The Cult and leaves you wanting more on September 19 with Disturbed. Even better, we just heard about a special 2 for 1 offer on tix. »READ MORE
The weekend, artists and celebrities from across the world gathered on the West Coast to hand out the most respected awards in the industry. There were surprises, controversy and plenty of cheesy speeches. But no, we’re not talking about the Emmys, we’re about something much more important. Yes, this weekend Seattle hosted “Cheese-a-Topia,” aka the American Cheese Association’s annual awards. So who’s the big cheese for 2010 and did any AZ cheese-mongers make the cut?
Normally we don’t get into videos this early in the morning but this here beauty for Florence and The Machine is a great way to start your day.
It’s last-minute, but we just heard about a fundraiser for the Chandler police officer who was killed in the line of duty. Hosted tonight at Majerle’s Sports Grill next to Chandler Fashion Square. There will be food specials, as well as a raffle and auction to benefit the family of Carlos Ledesma, who was killed in an undercover drug bust gone awry.

Two weeks ago we reported on the New Times‘ $22 million death feud with a rival publication. (Long story short, the NT‘s parent company was found guilty of using “predatory pricing” to try to bury a competitor to its SF Weekly, and now owes more than $22M and counting in fines and legal fees.)
It’s a surreal story about two print dinosaurs battling it out for the domination of the same city that’s worked tirelessly (and successfully) to make them completely irrelevant, thanks to this little thing called the Internets. And now the original print dinosaur, the NY Times is weighing in.
Given how disturbingly-skinny these figures are, it’s a little ironic that these sketches ended up on dishes. But we love them anyways. Based upon a drawing by the late SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) professor Ben Morris, this unique table wear comes in 4 delish colors: gecko, mustard, teal and wine. At only $8 a plate, you’ll still have enough for several pairs of YSL’s electrifying Palais Pumps.
Calling all gossip girls and dirty laundry-loving dudes, it’s DLT’s column dedicated to the Valley’s juiciest rumors, spottings and innuendos. Check in regularly for the latest (unconfirmable), but too-good-to-not-be true tidbits.
Today we’ve got a Scottsdale dining dish that’s hot off the grill. Looks like the long-planned Samurai Cowboy project in Downtown Scottsdale is kaput. But fear not, fearless foodies. Turns out the owners (Stingray, Drift, Geisha A Go Go) are simply going in a new direction.
Read what happened when our pals at Scoop Factory helped judge a cocktail competition in Scottsdale. (Hint: Hanna Montana made a surprise guest appearance.)
Last night we were invited to help judge a cocktail competition as part of the 2010 Crave AZ food festival. (On a related note, is the sun extra bright today, or is that just us?) Hosted at everybody’s fav speakeasy, Kaz Bar, it featured nine of the Valley finest mixologists going head to head for a chance to represent AZ in a national mix-off coming this October as part of Crave’s three-day food and wine extravaganza. And to make things interesting, each round featured a surprise special ingredient, including an obscure French liqueur handcrafted by monks. »READ MORE

Next time you’re in Singapore (all the time, right?), be sure to take a dip at the new Marina Bay Sands Resort‘s infinity pool. Located on the 55th floor rooftop of this $4 billion hotel and casino, the pool is three times the length of an Olympic-size swimming pool and longer than the Eiffel Tower laid down, just to give you a rough idea of its size.
Currently the world’s most expensive hotel, acrophobes (fear of heights) might want cross this one off their list of possible vacay resorts.

Recently, we were lucky enough to be able to spend a few hours stuffing ourselves silly at the Sanctuary on Camelback Resort. Don’t hate us, but we were invited to an intimate media dinner inside the resort’s posh new 12-person dining room named, wait for it, XII. Hosted by elements’ chef and budding Food Network star, Beau MacMillan, it was a belt-busting, four-hour food and wine extravaganza.
