Well this sad story keeps getting weirder and more salacious. Back in the end of June, we brought you the oddly-overlooked story of former Tucson resident, Juliana Redding. The 21-year-old model/aspiring actress (pictured), who was found brutally beaten and strangled to death in her apartment in ritzy Santa Monica, CA more than two years ago. We promised you a follow up as details emerged, and have they ever!
Back then, we informed you of some stunning developments in the case, including the fact that Kelly Soo Park (pictured at right), a 44-year-old real estate agent had been arrested and charged with murdering Redding in a complicated murder-for-hire plot involving a shady spinal surgeon and Redding’s father, a Tucson-based pharmacist.[Ed. note: DLT has updated this description. In short, in the months before and after the murder, prosecutors claim Park received more than $360,000 from Dr. Munir Uwaydah, a Southern California surgeon with a checkered past, including a conviction for filing nearly $1 million in fraudulent insurance claims. Meanwhile, the LA Times reported the victim’s father, Greg Redding, was involved in a business negotiation with Dr. Uwaydah that fell apart five days before the murder.
Now for some updates: On July 7 Park plead not guilty to the murder. But the real bombshells came just this week at a hearing to determine whether of not Park’s bail should be raised from $1M to $5M because she posed a flight risk. According to prosecutors, not only was Redding’s father involved with Dr. Uwaydah (pictured at left), but he was the former boyfriend of the victim before allegedly ordering Park to murder her.
So what else came out of Park’s heated hearing? According to prosecutors, Dr. Uwaydah bragged that Park was like a “female James Bond,” who helped clean up his messes. Furthermore, Park’s DNA was found on the victim’s clothes and throat.
So where’s the alleged mastermind of this plot? No one really knows. According to Dr. Uwaydah’s attorney, his client is of out of the country on business, but won’t reveal his location. All of which was cited by prosecutors as reasons why Park’s bail need to be raised, because they fear that Uwaydah will spring her from jail and whisk her out of the country. And the judge must agree, as yesterday he increased Park’s bail to $3.5M.
Stay tuned for details.
