Wild Beast Trapped at Papago Park

May 28, 2010 | 12:41 PM | News | By Staff

So remember that urban myth about the pet alligator that was flushed down a toilet and grew into a man-eating beast? Well, that just happened in a Phoenix Park! (Minus the alligator, and the man eating part.)

On Wednesday, AZ Game and Fish workers pulled this massive 62-pound turtle out of a pond as part of its annual roundup of non-native species. Officials speculate the monstrous Alligator Snapping Turtle, one of 75 turtles captured during the three-day roundup, was a former pet dropped off at the pond. Wonder if they told the poor kid that the turtle was sent to live with distant relatives on some magical turtle farm?
