$11M to Drink Beer?

May 7, 2010 | 9:33 AM | Sports | By Frank Johnson

Former D’Back and local TV star, Eric Byrnes is being paid $11 million to play beer league softball. Yes, after being kicked to the curb by first the D’Backs, and more recently the Seattle Mariners, Byrnes has joined a softball team sponsored by The Dutch Goose, a burger and beer joint in Menlo Park, California. Sounds like fun, especially when you are being paid $11M by the D’Back’s, who are still on the hook for the final year of his three-year, $33M contract.

“This is going to be a blast,” Byrnes says in an interview with MLB.com. “Playing with my buddies. I can’t wait for my first hit. I’m going to ask for the ball.” However, he’ll have to wait a little longer, since he went 0 for 4 yesterday.
