Phoenix PD says iPhone App Led to Murder

April 28, 2010 | 2:51 PM | News | By Frank Johnson

A 19-year-old Phoenix resident is suspected of beating and fatally stabbing a man he met through an iPhone gay “cruising” app.

Tommy Reed (pictured) was arrested on Tuesday after witnesses identified him as the man last seen with, Mark G. Woodland, 54, who was found dead at his apartment near 38th Street and Greenway on Sunday. According to the victim’s roommate, Woodland connected with the suspect via Grinder, a gay “cruising” app that allows people to locate dates based on Global Positioning System technology. Police were able to confirm Reed’s phone was used to arrange a date with Woodland, and the suspect has made admissions to the homicide, according to police.
