A few days ago we jokingly called chef Justin Beckett a restaurant wrecker after word broke that he was launching another new eatery. Turns out chef’s sense of humor is as sharp as his knives, and instead of throwing a frying pan through our office window, he had his business partners reach out to us to give us the inside scoop on his new project.
Opening in September, Beckett’s Table is a casual neighborhood eatery housed inside the former That’s Italiano space at 36th and Indian School. Expect plenty of rustic, casual comfort foods cooked in a wood-fired oven and served in charming skillets and terrines. Crafted by famed local designer, Jeffrey Rausch of Exclaim Design (Tarbell’s, etc.), the interiors will feature a stripped down, organic feel including a 20-foot-long black walnut slab communal table, as well as soaring ceilings that expose the building’s wooden balloon trusses. Finally, look for a top-notch drink menu run by Beckett’s partners, Scott Stephans (Tarbell’s, MercBar, T. Cook’s) and his wife Katie.
Well played, chef.
