Prada has partnered with M/M (Paris), a French design initiative, and used the T-shirt as its canvas. Led by Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag, the group has taken its obsession with alphabets—and their ability to simultaneously represent individual and whole—and created its own interpretation of the Prada brand through the PRADALPHABET. M/M’s custom shirts (the letters are also available for order to print separately) look like the visual version of interpretive jazz. Each letter is formed by a hailstorm of what appear to be lamps, bicycle handles, staircases and chairs— bringing to mind the artistic movements surrounding Futurism, Cubism and Dadaism with their use of every day objects, focus on abstract shapes and rejection of traditional technique.
The five shirts attempt to harness the Prada brand, and the power of its logo, to create a new artistic vision. And though there have been many words spoken about Prada, we’d say few have done such a cerebral job with 26 letters.
