The City of Scottsdale's Appaloosa Library is cutting edge in terms of both interior-exterior and environmental design. Completed in October 2009, this booky bad boy is fully-equipped with 52 computers, a computer lab for classes, two meeting rooms, a used book store, quiet study rooms, a teen center, an early learning/story time room, a café and an 80,000 item book and electronic collection.Designed by DWL Architects and Douglas Sydnor Architect, this also proves that sleek and stylish can also be quite miserly. That's because this green machine uses 31 percent less energy and 51 percent less water consumption than more conventional libraries, while 93 percent of the construction debris generated was recycled. No wonder why the Appaloosa received a Gold Level Certification by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
